I have been trying using OpenVPN Client and Tunnelblick (in all cases, the client is running on my Macbook pro with macOS Big Sur), and I get the same issue with both. It is weird, because I use the same VPN configuration! Why would the server block it this time? However, as soon as I try to send an HTTP/HTTPS request, it is blocked, somehow. However, when I log into the VPN from my house's WiFi, the behaviour is very weird: I can run ssh sessions, ping wherever I want, etc.

When I use my phone as a hotspot, and I log into the VPN from my Mac (using my phone's connection), everything works perfectly. It's just when Tunnelblick is open.I am hosting an OpenVPN Server (I followed this tutorial) and I am facing some issues on the client side. The underlying problem has no configuration or log to report, as it occurs with no configuration. Now he CAN access the servers protected behind our VPN, but he still can't access the outside world. So I have him add the configuration (this exact same configuration, mind you, works from my computer) and connect. Even when I was hacking and troubleshooting TB a couple years ago to create the up/down scripts for it, I never saw anything like this. He can repeat this over and over again and the pattern never changes. He opens Tunnelblick (again, no configurations), and five seconds later his Internet is gone. He quits Tunnelblick and turns his WiFi off and back on, and his Internet connection returns. Mind you this isn't a DNS entry: open connections he has (such as IM) drop. The mere act of opening TB severs his connection. There are no TB configurations configured, so TB (OpenVPN) is obviously not connected to anything. He opened TB and within 10 seconds he had lost Internet connectivity. He installed TB and still everything was fine. I walked him through completely uninstalling TB.

He, on the other hand, can't even use his computer with TB open. I can connect to the VPN just fine, no problem. He is running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3 and thus TB 3.3beta40 since 3.2.8 doesn't run on ML. Currently I'm running OS X Lion 10.7.5 and TB 3.2.8. I've been connecting to it for two years using TB with no problems. I'm helping my brother get connected to our VPN.
